Dr Ibrahim Bulushi

Waqf Secretary

Dr. Ibrahim Bulushi is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Wakf Commission of Kenya and Council Member of The Union of NGOs of the Islamic World based in Turkey. He is one of the Founder and Director- General of African Foundation for Education and Community Development (AFECoD) based in Kenya. AFECoD is a non-profitable organization initiated and registered in Kenya by its board of trustees under registration no. CAP. 164.

He is the former Dean of Students Affair and the Registrar (Administration, Planning and Finance) of Umma University in Kajiado, Kenya. He holds a PhD in Islamic Jurisprudence and Principles of Islamic Law with a specialization in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Prior to that he obtained a Master of Arts in Islamic Studies from Loughborough University (United Kingdom), a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Insurance (London), and a Bachelor of Education from International University of Africa (IUA), Khartoum.

He  is  currently a  member  of  the  Shariah  Supervisory Council with the Takaful Insurance of Africa. He is also a founder of several schools and advising several organizations for sustainable development projects.

He has travelled to many parts of the world including countries in Africa, Europe, and South East Asia in search of knowledge and experience for nearly two decades. He is passionate in promoting the Integration of Knowledge (Al-takamul al-ma‘rifah) through his speeches and writings.

Dr. Bulushi spent over 18 years in three continents seeking knowledge, training, and exposure resulting in casting an excellent networking and collaboration with International partners mostly in Africa, Turkey, Middle East and the Far East.

During his academic sojourn in Malaysia, Dr. Bulushi has created and woven a strong network of contacts both in private sector and in the Government Institutions. He has closely worked with the Kenyan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in his capacity as a close associate of the Kenyan Ambassador H.E. Samori A. Okwiya advising him on trade business, development, infrastructure, real  estate, Islamic Banking and Finance in Malaysia, since it is a successful model for developing countries that focus on being the International hub for Islamic Finance and Halal Industry that has huge potential in trillions of dollars in return.

His diplomatic finesse in networking has taken him to the influential personalities  in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Turkey. He has closer and direct  access to many important and influential individuals in the various sectors of Malaysian Society and Government.

His attachment to this part of the world has led him to marry an Indonesian lady that has enabled him to access the local language and culture from a closer encounter.

He has authored several academic papers and co-authored two books, (1) The application of Zakah on Investment property and deposit contract: Issues in Fiqh Contemplation (2012), (2) A Comparative analysis of registration of marriage in Islam: Issues in contemporary Muslim jurists (2013), both published by Lambert Academic Publishing of Saarbrűcken, Germany and (3) Bulushi, Ibrahim Mohamed Haji and Mahmud, Mek Wok (2017). He is a member of Union of the NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) based in Turkey, and a member of Board for the Centre for Minority Studies in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr. Bulushi’s interests and exposures will be very useful for the betterment of bilateral relations between Kenya and Malaysia as he has the required prerequisites for undertaking any representative role that he can play in promoting Kenya-Malaysia relations.
